What is the difference between a Storage VPS and a regular VPS?
A Storage VPS trades IOPS for capacity. The system disk is NVMe so the operating system stays responsive, while the bulk volume is enterprise HDD in RAID-10 — sequential throughput is excellent, random IOPS are not. Can I use a Storage VPS as a Restic, Borg or rsync backup target?
Yes, and it is the single most common use. You get full root over SSH, so any tool that speaks SSH, SFTP, rsync or S3-compatible object storage works without a special agent. Many customers deliberately place the backup target in a different jurisdiction from the primary copy so that one legal event cannot reach both.
Is a seedbox allowed?
Torrent traffic is permitted in Iceland, Moldova, Panama and Seychelles, where a US copyright notice carries no legal force and nothing local stands behind it. It is also permitted in our 3 EU sites (the Netherlands, Romania and Bulgaria), with one difference worth knowing before you pick one: a bulk notice still does nothing there, but the Digital Services Act obliges us to assess a properly substantiated complaint and tell you what arrived. It is not permitted in the United States location. Bandwidth on storage plans runs from 20 TB to 80 TB per month, and exceeding it throttles the port rather than generating an invoice.
How fast is the disk?
Sequential read and write on the HDD array typically exceeds 500 MB/s thanks to RAID-10 striping across enterprise drives. Random 4K IOPS are in the hundreds, as with any spinning array. The NVMe system partition (50–100 GB depending on plan) is the same enterprise NVMe used across the compute fleet.
What happens if a drive fails?
RAID-10 survives the loss of any single drive and, depending on which pair, potentially more. Failed drives are replaced by on-site staff and the array rebuilds without downtime. RAID is redundancy rather than backup, so the off-site snapshot add-on is still worth taking on data you cannot regenerate.
Can I expand the storage later?
Yes. Capacity can be increased from the control panel with the change applied at the next reboot and billed pro rata against your current term. Capacity cannot be reduced, because shrinking a live filesystem is not a safe operation to perform automatically.
